ARTS FOR ACT - MARCH 2020

March 2020
Resist:  Interpretations and Techniques;  and Fifteen!
Arts for ACT  (boutique items for sale)
Reception - Friday, March 6 from 6-10 pm – as part of Gallery Walk

About Fifteen - The first fiber art enthusiasts of what became AQU met 15 years ago at Arts for ACT in Fort Myers.  To celebrate, honor and observe  AQU’s 15 years as SW Florida’s exclusive art quilters organization, create a 15” x 15” work using any media, around the idea of “fifteen”.  These should be constructed as a quilt sandwich, not mounted on stretcher bars or anything rigid.  They will be shown together in grid formation on a single wall.

Unitarian Universalist Church of Port Charlotte,  1582 Forrest Nelson Blvd., Port Charlotte
Reception -  Friday, May 8 from 4-6 pm

Press release FOR ARTS FOR ACT

“Fifteen!”  and “Resist:  Interpretations and Techniques”  –  by Art Quilters Unlimited

Art Quilters Unlimited members will exhibit fiber art responses to two creative challenges at Arts for ACT Gallery March 6-30, 2020.  The “Fifteen!” challenge celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of the first meeting of AQU in 2004 at Arts for ACT.  The works are all 15” square and each is a unique expression of subject matter, approach to composition, media, color, stitching, and embellishment.
“Resist:  Interpretations and Techniques” is a separate challenge that asked the artist to interpret the idea of “resist” - politically, socially, personally or from a fiber art perspective.  In fiber art terms, resist techniques (such as shibori and batik) involve any of several methods of creating patterns on cloth by binding, clamping or stitching. These art works are diverse in concept and execution and illustrate the freedom of creative expression that Art Quilters Unlimited encourages in our fiber art community.
Join us for a reception and meet the artists during Downtown Fort Myers Art Walk on Friday March 6th from 6-8, at Arts for ACT, 2265 First Street, Fort Myers. For more information about Art Quilters Unlimited, go to the website:  http://www.artquiltersunlimited.com
