WELCOME TO AQU
FIBER ART - TEXTILE ART - MIXED MEDIA
Artwork by
Carol Holsopple
We are a group of artists dedicated to creative expression using textiles and fibers. We love to exchange our ideas, techniques, and methods. We encourage appreciation for this often overlooked art form through community and regional exhibits.
Our collective work includes hand and machine stitching techniques, fiber manipulation, burning, printing, weaving, embellishing, felting, dying, beading, and so much more! Throughout the year, we offer educational and creative venues, including workshops and an annual retreat. Each business meeting features an artistic program and members’ show-and-tell.
About AQU
Carol Holsopple, Founder
The first meeting of Art Quilters Unlimited took place in March 2004 at ACT Gallery. Founder Carol Holsopple and nineteen other art quilters, including current members Faith Pfalz and Karen Stockwell, were in attendance. May 2008 saw the first bylaws, and three years later AQU presented its “Journey 2011” quilt show. The group started exhibiting its unique fiber art pieces in local galleries in 2017, the culmination of many years of steady growth and recognition in Southwest Florida.
AQU is a group of fiber artists who work side by side in a friendly environment that inspires artistic growth. We believe everyone has an artist inside looking to express emotions and responses to the world around us.
Every member has the opportunity to create, to learn from experienced fiber arts teachers, and to exhibit finished pieces. Many of our members teach and exhibit abroad. We host in-person workshops and attend Zoom workshops from our own individual studios—a new and satisfying way for us to be together and learn.
AQU is a nonprofit organization driven by our passion to promote and support the vibrant textile arts community. Join us on our mission to showcase the creativity and artistry of our members as we enter our 20th year!
